It's a medium sized button, large enough to\npress easily but not too big that it gets in the way of your project panel. It\nhas a built in LED that can be controlled separately from the switch action -\neither to indicate or just to look good. The body is a black plastic with the\nLED built inside. The forward voltage of the LED is about 3V so\nconnect a 220 to 1000 ohm resistor in series just as you would with any other\nLED to your 3V or higher power supply. When the coil is energized, the slug is\npulled into the center of the coil. This makes the solenoid able to pull or\npush.This solenoid in particular is nice and strong, with a 40mm long body and\na captive armature with a return spring. This means that when activated with\nup to 12VDC, the solenoid moves and then the voltage is removed it springs\nback to the original position, which is quite handy. Many lower cost solenoids\nare only push type or only pull type and may not have a captive armature or do\nnot have a return spring. This solenoid has 4xM3 metric threaded holes in the\nbottom for easy mounting. To drive a solenoid you will need a power transistor\nand a diode, check this diagram for how to wire it to an Arduino or other\nmicrocontroller. You will need a fairly good power supply to drive a solenoid,\nas a lot of current will rush into the solenoid to charge up the electro-\nmagnet, about 250mA, so don't try to power it with a 9V battery.
