Paving the Way to Wound Healing by: Overcoming Wound Infection and Biofilm FormationAbsorbing exudate (wound discharge)Providing an ideal moist wound healing environment Areza Antibacterial Alginate with Silver is made of silver particles and natural alginates derived from seaweed. Alginates are hydrophilic polysaccharides which means they are polymers of carbohydrates and can absorb water. When the dressing is dry, the alginate fibers (in a predetermined ratio of mannuronic and glucuronic acid forms) compose the majority of weight of the dressing. The silver particles compose less than 1% of the weight of the dressing with a concentration of 50 micrograms (μg) per 100 cm2 of the surface area. Real and cartoon images of dry silver alginate. Note the visible dry fibers in the magnified real image (yellow arrows). Each dressing inside a sealed, intact pouch is sterileThe moist, gel-like state does not adhere to the wound, allowing for an easy removalThe moist, gel-like state also facilitates autolytic debridement (loosening of dead tissue on wound surface)Either side can be placed facing the woundDressing may be trimmed or folded to best fit the woundEach lot of product is controlled with a verified Certificate of AnalysisOn rare occasions, the dressing may disintegrate in the wound. The material is biocompatible and is of no concern for the body or wound. Read more How It Works: When being placed directly on a wound with exudate, the dressing simultaneously renders absorptive and antibacterial effects". A The dressing is placed directly on a wound with exudate (wet wound): B. Shortly after three actions will occur: First: the dressing begins to absorb the wound exudate. Second: simultaneously, the dressing transforms into a soft, moist, comfortable, non-adhering gel-like material, covering the wound. Third: The moist dressing steadily releases SILVER onto the wound surface/bed (peak release during the first 24-48 hours). Read more Easy to use 1- Clean the wound with sterile saline or as instructed by wound care provider. 2 - Apply the dressing directly on the wound (trim or fold to best fit the wound size). Either side can be placed on wound. 3- Cover the wound and 1 inch of normal skin beyond the wound area 4- Secure with a secondary dressing, such as island dressing, gauze pad/rolls secured with tape or self adhesive bandages, or other adhesive dressings. 5- To remove: after removing the secondary dressing, gently remove this dressing. If the dressing appears dry, throughly moisten with saline prior to removal. 6- The frequency of the dressing change may vary depending on the wound's drainage. 7- If to be used on a dry wound or a wound with low exudate, first moisten the dressing with saline solution and wring it out prior to its application. 8- This dressing can be used in cavities of high stage wounds. Precautions Do not use on patients with known sensitivity to silver or alginates. Not intended for use on third-degree burns.Alginate dressings are highly permeable and nonocclusive. A secondary wound dressing (such as gauze sponge pad and gauze rolls) is required to secure the dressing. For external use only.Frequent or prolonged use of this product may result in permanent discoloration of skin. This product is of single use. Do not reuse or resterilize.Do not use if package is damaged or open. Read more Wound And Infection A wound is when there is an interruption in the integrity of the skin. The damage may vary in depth, ranging from the most superficial skin layer to a total loss of skin layers or even tissues under the skin. As a consequence of this disintegration, bacteria and fungi find a path toward deeper tissues, resulting in an infection. Infection is one of the major risks that wounds may impose to body. Biofilm: Biofilm is formed when bacteria are transformed and lay down a foundation over the wound, facilitating their adherence to the wound surface. Irrigation can not remove biofilm.
