Read more FAQs What makes the adhesive conductive? Our adhesive contains graphite molecules which are very conductive - this is why our tape is perfect for paper circuits! What colour is the backing? Our tape consists of copper foil and a white paper easy-peel backing. This means when you use the tape, both sides are copper which is important to consider when you're soldering stained glass. Trace the image onto your glass with a permanent marker. Leave a centimetre or less of room for the thickness of the copper tape. If you have access to a lightbox, this can make tracing the pattern much easier. Step by Step to Solder Stain Glass! Next, you need to score and cut your glass. Press the cutter into the glass gently - beginning at a point away from your body and scraping inward. Make sure you are applying the right amount of pressure - it should make a clear 'zzzip' sound as you score. Move your pattern around when necessary - rotating to score the whole shape and making sure you the score line goes from edge to edge. For straight edges, once you see a line forming, place your pliers in the crack and squeeze to separate the pieces. For curved sections, use your glass cutter to break through the scoring. If you're dealing with deep curves, deal with it in a series of shallow curves. Don't worry if any of the curves are jagged as you can sand them later. Step by Step to Solder Stain Glass! Either use a grinder or regular sandpaper to file down the edges of the glass until every edge is smooth. Use our Kraftex 1/4" Copper Tape to evenly cover the edges of the glass - make sure the tape is in the middle of the edges so it isn't wonky. Copper Tape helps solder to flow smoothly when working with stained glass. Our 1/4" Copper Tape is perfect for standard, stained glass (1/8") but make sure you check the width of your glass before purchasing. Apply Flux to the copper tape as this helps the solder flow. Brush each copper-foiled surface with the flux every time before you solder. Gel flux is usually easier to work with than liquid flux but both have the same effect. Step by Step to Solder Stain Glass! Tack the pieces together by applying a small amount of flux followed by a small amount of solder - roughly joining all the pieces together. Next, 'tin the seams' by adding flux to all the seams of your glass. Then, apply a thin, flat amount of solder to all the seams - making sure you cover all the coper tape. Add another layer of flux to the tinned seams and a large amount of solder. Run your soldering iron back and forth to create a melted seam of solder. Once this section is completely melted, lift away your solder iron and the surface should be smooth. Finally, a finished stained glass piece to frame and hang in your home! Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Wide Application Paper Circuits Copper is highly conductive which is what makes our tape great for circuits! Educational and fun, it is super easy to create a paper circuit using copper tape. Firstly, print off a template online that shows a simple paper circuit - we recommend Makerspaces. Apply the copper tape, tracing the lines and smoothing the tape down. Make sure that when you reach the corner, you either fold the tape or solder the tape so that there is a continuous line - do not cut it. Next, cut out the space for the LED and then cut the tape at the end, when it reaches the positive symbol. Fold the paper in the corner so the positive and negative symbols, at each of the tape, would touch the battery. Add the LED to the circuit, using cellotape, and making sure that the longest 'leg' is on the positive line of tape. Add your battery and you're done! Craft Projects Our 1/4" Copper Tape is bold and flexible making it ideal for your craft projects. Why not make a plain candle into a sparkling gift? Or jazz up a vase with some tape - giving your home that extra pop of colour. The possibilities are endless - make sure to share pictures of your copper tape crafts in our reviews section. Jewellery Making Always wanted to make your own jewellery? With our copper tape and a couple of other tools, that dream can become a reality! We made earrings from a broken plate. Simply pick your plate and use a hammer to break it into little pieces. Using sandpaper, sand the sharp edges so they are smooth to touch. Wrap the edges with Kraftex Copper Tape (making sure it is completely stuck to the stone). Then, using solder and a soldering iron, solder over the copper tape. Pick a clasp (whether you want earrings or a necklace - these clasps are easy and cheap to buy on Amazon) and solder it to the top of your plate - and that's it!
