Based on the breakout on ST's LIS3MDL, a\ngreat general purpose magnetometer. This compact sensor uses I2C for\ncommunication and is very easy to use. Simply download the library and connect\nthe SCL pin to your I2C watch pin, and SDA pin to your I2C data pin and upload\nour test program to read magnetic field data. If you want, you can also use\nSPI to receive data (we just prefer I2C here). This sensor can detect ranges\nfrom +-4 Gauss (+- 400 uTesla) to +-16 Gauss (+- 16uTesla). For ultra-high\nprecision, a 155Hz refresh rate is recommended - but if you don't mind a\nlittle precision loss, the sensor can output at 1000Hz.
